DESIGN EXPERIMENT

VOLUNTEER

PARTICIPATING DIARY

- be applied in STUDENT LINK

Aim

After a Self-experiment, the findings were very personal. To explore the problem area more, I introduced the Self-experiment to two other students and I invited them to join the experiment with me.

Keywords: Co-discovery,  Diary, Fast, Text, Participatory Design

Time & Location: 07/2017- 08/2017, London

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
Experiment with Person L

Participant, Person L:

Person L is a student with a huge anxiety of nal essay. She had the must do situation, writing the diary, but she could not really write it. So she was anxious all the time. She wanted to try if anything could reduce her anxiety. Hence, she would love to join my experiment.

Duration: 10 days

What did I do:

I suggested she to do the same thing as I did in my Self-experiment 2. “Doing something the person has sense to do but the person lacks ability to do it.”

I asked her to always think about one keyword and remind it to herself. She could pick the keyword at the beginning, because it depended on her own situation and she was the right person to pick it.
And I asked her to write down her feeling as a diary when she did as above.

All the diary pages, she provided me with, are as followed.

Experiment with Person P

Participant, Person P:

Person P is a student who was facing the risk of being dismissed from the university. The situation was very stressful to him.

Duration: 12 days

What did I do:

I suggested he to do the same thing as I did in my Self-experiment 3.

“Travelling alone would providing satisfaction.”

I told him about my experiment and asked if he wanted to travel. He took my advice and recorded the changes in his feelings throughout the whole experience and journey.

All the diary pages, he provided me with, are as followed.

CONCLUSION OF EXPERIMENTS

During the experiment, Person L did not follow what I asked her to do.

Person P give me a feedback as the satisfaction of travelling is not about an improvement, it just because the person is teared out of the problem for that time.

Their feedbacks are still an important resource for this project. But it does not really help the process of the discovery.
